Why use an ultrasonic activator in endodontics?

The Ultra Smart AI – COXO is an intelligent ultrasonic activator designed to improve the precision, safety, and efficiency of every stage of endodontic treatment. Thanks to its high-frequency ultrasonic micro-vibrations, it facilitates the most delicate procedures whilst preserving dental structures.

Location of difficult canals (MB2, MMC…)

Accessory canals, notably the MB2 canal of maxillary molars, are often difficult to locate due to their narrow diameter or coverage by secondary dentine. Ultrasonic inserts enable extremely precise removal of this dentine through their micro-vibrations, without the aggressive effects of rotary instruments. The practitioner can thus access canal orifices more easily while preserving maximum healthy tissue.

Elimination of calcifications

Canal calcifications represent one of the main challenges in endodontic treatment. Ultrasonic vibrations progressively fragment mineralised deposits and allow their controlled removal. Access to the canal is facilitated, while reducing the risk of deviation or perforation.

Preparation of the coronal isthmus and cleaning of undercuts

Ultrasonic inserts allow precise reshaping of the access cavity, preparation of the coronal isthmus, and removal of undercuts likely to retain organic or bacterial debris. This preparation improves visibility, access to the canals, and the quality of treatment.

Activation of irrigation solutions

During irrigation, ultrasonic micro-vibrations create micro-streaming and cavitation phenomena within the irrigation solutions (sodium hypochlorite, EDTA…). This agitation considerably improves their penetration into the irregularities of the canal system, lateral canals, and isthmi, thus optimising disinfection.

Three-dimensional distribution of canal sealer

During obturation, ultrasonic activation promotes a homogeneous distribution of endodontic sealer throughout the entire canal system. This three-dimensional diffusion improves the seal of the obturation and limits the presence of voids.

Removal of fractured instruments

In endodontic retreatment, ultrasonic inserts allow a fractured instrument to be progressively freed through highly localised vibrations. This technique increases the chances of file retrieval whilst minimising the loss of dental substance.
