Giromatic endodontic contra-angle. Alternates the direction of rotation.
The giromatic contra-angle is the forerunner of the reciprocating endodontic motor.
Unlike an endodontic motor, which alternates the direction of rotation (clockwise/anti-clockwise) in an asymmetric manner..... (150/30°, 180/60°, 50/170°....) the giromatic contra-angle rotates in a "symmetrical" manner: 45° clockwise then 45° anti-clockwise and so on. Furthermore, since the contra-angle operates with a micro motor on the chair, there is no safety mechanism linked to a declutching torque. The practitioner's sensitivity IS the safety feature to avoid blocking/breaking the file in the canal.
Works with "manual" NiTi files.
